Performers & Workshops

Our line-up this year

Our line-up this year really is a who's-who of the Old-Timey, Bluegrass, Irish and Jazz scene for everything banjo! The 'A-List' has lined up to perform at our little festival - we are honoured!

Explore the rich sounds of the banjo beyond standard tuning in this hands-on workshop with Lachlan Heycox of Broken Creek. You’ll learn how to tune and play in Double C, Sawmill, Last Chance, and Sandy River Belle tunings, and discover how to find chords and melodies in each. Whether you’re looking to expand your repertoire or deepen your understanding of old-time banjo styles, this session will give you practical tools to make the most of these distinctive tunings.

Sean Kenan is a full-time street performer in Castlemaine and Daylesford. He plays Irish tenor banjo and Irish fiddle. Sean played in the traditional Irish Band, Poteen back in the 1970's. He moved to Canberra in 1990 and was a founding member of the Tinkers, an Irish tune band that was unique in the fact there were no songs, just tunes. Mark Twain played the banjo and said, "There comes a time in every man's life when he realises the most important thing, playing the banjo." This is the stage of life that Sean has arrived at.

Tunes will include "Skip to my Lou" in C and “When the Saints" in G. Listen, view, try or bring your own.
