Camping at River Reserve Camping at Big Tree Park Camping at the Oval

Camping areas are at: the Oval, the River Reserve and Big Tree Park

"Please camp between the signs in these areas."

Where to camp

** CAMPING on the John Powell Reserve Oval is only available for wrist-banded ticket holders (including performers and volunteers). Other camping areas available will be Big Tree Park and the River Reserve . The Saddle Club Recreation Reserve will be held aside for emergencies only.

** There are no powered sites. One person has historically pre-arranged with the Jamboree to have access to power for medical reasons but unfortunately we do NOT have the facilities to offer this to others. Persons needing this facility will need to camp at Castlemaine or at a privately arranged billet.

** The new Shower Block on the John Powell Reserve oval passed its first Jamboree run with flying colours. Jamboree funds contributed towards its construction. Thank you to those who have offered some helpful suggestions about its usage.

** Camping is NOT available on the Tuesday night. The John Powell Reserve (oval), the Big Tree Park and the River Reserve are not public camping areas - they are managed by two different bodies and the Jamboree must apply for permission to use them. Limited spots w ill be available on the Wednesday night only for those volunteering their services for the set-up on Thursday. General camping for other visitors will be available from Thursday afternoon.

** Maps to all venues will be available on arrival - from volunteers, and from the store, the post office and the Hotel.

** Please look for and observe the signs in all camping areas and observe any other instructions or markings. We always try to minimize the wear and tear on the oval surface, so we ask campers to set up along the inside perimeter of the fence line first. We will open up more area later as required. There is a necessity to provide a 'thoroughfare' for Emergency Vehicles on the oval. Also, please plan to minimize vehicle movement on and off the oval.

** Public toilets and barbeque facilities are available in Big Tree Park, and toilets and showers are available at the new shower block at the oval. We will also have a number of portaloos in various locations, and an extra one behind the hotel. When open, there are toilets at the Public Hall, the Hotel, the Tearooms and the CFA. The Public Hall now has an indoor Disabled Toilet.

** Our oval, the John Powell Reserve, has the special distinction of having one of the only turf cricket pitches left in Victoria. This area will be roped off and you are asked to be especially careful not to encroach upon it.

** Session marquees will again be set up on the oval, with gas heaters, tables and chairs and a portable toilet nearby. When you are setting up camp, please note where these are and do not camp near them if you are sensitive to late-night noise!

** FIRES on the oval and other camping spots will be strictly controlled to comply with CFA and council requirements. Absolutely no uncontained fires are to be lit on any designated camping area at any time. Campers bringing fire drums/burners must agree to them being inspected by CFA volunteers and they are only to be used if they are on stands which are not going to be harmful to the grass. Patrons who bring drums are advised to bring their own supplies of untreated and unpainted firewood/fuel. It is illegal to gather wood from the River Reserve and the cost and logistics of the Jamboree supplying and distributing firewood make it impracticable to do so in large quantities, though we may be installing a limited number of drums with some firewood.

** DOGS: As a result of Public Liability Insurance constraints and in the interest of public safety, that while they are welcome in the town of Guildford, no dogs will be permitted in any venue (including the Guildford Family Hotel beer garden) during programmed events. We hope that this will not cause any offence to Jamboree patrons and ask for their understanding.

** MOBILE PHONES: Please note that Guildford is in a mobile phone "rainshadow" area and reception is limited or non-existent. A little hill-climbing may be necessary. You have been warned!
